James Entwhistle March 3, 2014
Born March 15, 1920, raised in Everett, MA, joined the Coast Guard in 1940
and served during WWII on the Duane. He lived in Plymouth, MA. and would have been 94 this month.

Died: January 27, 2010 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine Enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1940 retired in 1969

Joseph Tavani, Jr., served on the USCG Duane during World War II. Passed away on January 4, 2014 at the age of 92

George William Washburn, passed away in Sandwich on July 30, 2016. George is survived by his wife Regina, a sister Carolyn Washburn of Sandwich and Venice, Florida, and his brother Ernest Washburn and his wife Janice of Plymouth and two nieces and a nephew. George was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, in 1942. Following graduation from Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston, Massachusetts, George joined the United States Coast Guard and served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Duane for almost three years performing search and rescue and weather patrol. He then spent two years stationed at the Cape Cod Canal Station in Sandwich. George was employed by the New England Deaconess Hospital as a Medical equipment tech in the Engineering Department for 23 years. He later retired from Cape Cod Academy after nine years. George was certified as a dental lab technician and held several certifications in medical and surgical equipment and patient equipment maintenance. George enjoyed researching his family history and was instrumental in early computerized genealogical research on the internet. He wrote many articles on the Coast Guard and has been published in nautical magazines and periodicals. He was a volunteer at the Coast Guard Heritage Museum in Barnstable, Massachusetts, for several years. George was a member of the Coast Guard Cutter Duane Association and the National Air and Space Museum and is listed on the Museums Wall of Honor.

I am Dennis C. (Woody) Holtz, middle son of Capt. Edward W. Holtz, who commanded the Duane in 1949 -1950. Capt. Holtz began his career in his beloved Coast Guard in 1923, as an AB seaman aboard the Cutter Shawnee. A yeoman, he transferred to the CGC Bear-the sail and steam barkentine, for the ship's 1925 patrol of the Bearing Sea. 35 years later, Holtz retired as a captain. He died in 1982.

Thomas E. Grabowski - ET2 - 69-72- Duane Association Treasurer
Thomas Eugene Grabowski, 68, of Level Green, went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2017 after a long and brave battle with CNS Lymphoma. He was born on December 15, 1948 in New Kensington, PA, a son of the late Walter and Bertha Grabowski. Tom served in the United States Coast Guard on the USS Duane WHEC-33 from 1969-1972. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1979. He was employed as a field service technician with various employers until his return to the United States Coast Guard where he retired as a civilian marine electrician in 2014. He enjoyed taking vacations to the Outer Banks and was an avid history buff. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 34 years, Victoria Grabowski; 3 children, Gwendolyn (Gary) Hanson of Canal Fulton, OH, Rachael (A.B.) Osborne of Fairborn, OH and Daniel Grabowski (Keri Sullivan) of Level Green; 1 granddaughter, Evelyn Cedar Osborne; 5 siblings, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and Coast Guard shipmates.
